The temperature at Kahului Airport on Maui on Sunday tied the record set for the same day 55 years ago.

The National Weather Service reports that the 89 degree temperature in Kahului on Sunday, April 23, 2017, ties the old record of 89 set in 1962 for the day.

The NWS is forecasting moderate easterly trade winds to persist through Wednesday as a surface ridge holds north of the state.

According to the NWS, trades will ease and shift out of the southeast on Thursday as a front approaches the state. Somewhat wet and unstable conditions will develop on Friday and will continue over portions of the state through the weekend.
