Looking Ahead

Complicated weather is expected through the weekend. All the ingredients will be present for flare ups in the form of heavy rain and thunderstorms. A front is forecast to stall over the state while simultaneously a disturbance high in the atmosphere brings instability.

Heavy rain is expected to be widespread, especially in Maui county this weekend. Rain will affect windward areas, while also impacting urban and leeward areas, which are more susceptible to flooding problems, especially in south and west Maui. These areas include Kihei, Lahaina, Kaanapali, and low-water crossings along Piilani Highway between Kaupo and Ulupalakua.

The heaviest rainfall is expected over Maui County and wet weather should continue into next week with a drying trend through the work week.

Today & Sunday

We have variable winds today around 5 to 15 mph. High temperatures are forecast from 79° to 84°. Mostly cloudy skies with showers likely and scattered thunderstorms. Some showers could be heavy at times. Flooding is not out of the question as indicated by the Flood Watch put into place by the National Weather Service – keep an eye out for any urgent Flood Advisories or Warnings.

Sunday, mostly cloudy skies are forecast with showers likely and a slight chance of thunderstorms. Locally heavy rainfall is still possible.

UV index at 8 (“very high” exposure level)

Tonight & Sunday Night

Mostly cloudy skies with showers likely and scattered thunderstorms. The threat of thunderstorms is not as high on Sunday night. Locally heavy rainfall is possible. Low temperatures from 68° to 73°. Winds are expected to be variable at about 5 to 15 mph.
