Maui fire crews responded to a male snorkeler that was pulled from the water at Nāpili Point, 5295 Lower Honoapiʻilani Road, at 3:11 p.m. on Sunday, June 18, 2017.

Lahaina firefighters arrived on scene at 3:22 p.m. to find bystanders performing CPR on the male victim. Firefighters continued CPR until paramedics arrived and began advanced life support measures.

Despite all efforts, the 68-year-old man from California was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim had been snorkeling with a friend not far from shore when the friend noticed that the man was not moving. The friend brought him to shore and bystanders helped to carry the victim out onto the shoreline.

Lahaina firefighters responded to the incident since the Nāpili fire crew was responding to another emergency call.
