The two groups met for the first time in July 2016 when the Lānaʻi drama students took the ferry to Maui to attend MAPA’s production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, the culmination of MAPA’s Summer Musical Theatre Camp. After the performance, the Maui and Lānaʻi students spent time talking story about performing a musical theater.

On Wednesday, 20 LAPA students take the ferry again to Maui to spend the day with the 56 students in MAPA’s production of Disney’s Mulan Jr. The day will be led by Devereaux Merchant, MAPA Teaching Artist, as well as Kathleen Schulz and Logan Heller, co-directors of the show.

“The Lānaʻi Academy of Performing Arts is excited to collaborate with Maui Academy of Performing Arts on what should be a great day of theater games, sharing performances, and making new friends,” said Matt Glickstein, LAPA’s Executive and Music Director.
