At around 6 p.m. rescue crews on board the fire department’s Air-1 helicopter located the teenager, along with two females and a male on the Hoapili Trail, also known as, “The Kings Highway,” roughly two miles east of the parking area at La Perouse Bay.

Rescue crews airlifted the teen to a landing zone near the parking lot where paramedics evaluated the girl. Air-1 went back and airlifted the three other hikers and brought them back to the trailhead.

All four were part of the same group and was about 90 minutes into the hike when the teen began having difficulty breathing. The teen was released at the scene after medical assessment and getting water to drink.

The teen is visiting from Arizona and was traveling with adult friends from California. Fire crews from Wailea and Kahului responded to the rescue.
