Maui-Made film ‘Kuleana’ Headed to Made in Hawai‘i Film Festival
Maui’s cinema darling Kuleana has been selected to screen at the Made in Hawaiʻi Film Festival, happening Aug. 25 at the Hilo Palace Theater on Hawaiʻi Island.
The 95-minute drama, set on Maui in the year 1971, will be played as the festival’s closing film.
The film received the 2017 Audience Choice award at the Maui Film Festival, and stars Moronai Kanekoa, Sonya Balmores, Kristina Anapau, Stefan Schaefer, Augie T, Marlene Sai, Branscombe Richmond and more.
Film director Brian Kohne will be in attendance at the Hilo screening.
“Filmmakers in Hawaiʻi are working to reclaim our narrative, and every year our collective skills improve as writers, directors, and producers,” says Kohne. “I am personally excited to screen our cultural feature, KULEANA, as part of the inaugural program, and also honored to share development, production, and marketing insights along with other professionals during our panel discussion.”
