Maui Hurricane Related Road Advisories/Closures Updates
Below is an ongoing list of Maui County road closures and traffic advisories associated with Hurricane Lane.

UPDATED ROAD CLOSURES ON MAUI:
6:36 a.m. 8.25.18:
* Piʻiholo Road (portions)
* Puʻu Way
* Piʻilani Highway (backside toward Hāna) at mile marker 37
* Honokolani, Ulaino, Waikaloa
* Haʻikū Road
* Kaupakalua Road
PIILANI HWY AT KILOHANA – 4 WAY STOP
11:30 p.m. 8.24.18: Crew at Piilani Highway/Kilohana Drive intersection in the Kihei/Wailea area. Treat as a four way stop.
HANA HWY: LANDSLIDE MILE 20.5, FALLEN TREE MILE 22
11:56 p.m. 8.24.18: Hana Highway at mile marker 21.5 is blocked by debris. The area near mile marker 17 is now passable. Crews are headed to mile marker 9.5 for further debris removal.
10:32 p.m. 8.24.18: Avoid Hāna Hwy on Maui. Landslides at mile markers 14, 20.5, 21.5 and 22.5. Please note, a Tropical Storm Warning is still in effect. Please avoid all non-essential travel.
7:25 p.m. 8.24.18: Crews are responding to landslide at Mile 20.5 and fallen tree at Mile 22 on the Hāna Highway.
HONOAPIILANI HWY POWER OUT AT INTERSECTIONS:
7:54 p.m. 8.24.18: (Maui) Power out to seven intersections on Honoapiʻilani Highway from Dickenson to Kapunakea. Estimated to be out overnight.
6:30 p.m. 8.24.18: Kaupakalua Rd-365 at West Kuiaha Rd – 368 – CLOSED. A river runs over Kaupakalua Rd between West Kuaiaha and Awalau Rd. This area will remain closed until further notice.
HANA HWY LANDSLIDE AT MILE 20:
5:18 p.m. 8.24.18: Maui emergency managers report the Hāna Highway near mile marker 20 remains closed due to a landslide reported earlier this afternoon.
4:27 p.m. 8.24.18: A landslide has closed the Hāna Highway near mile marker 20. Rainfall is expected to continue over portions of east Maui during the next several hours.
PIILANI HWY PAST KAUPO, SEVERE WEATHER:
5:18 p.m. 8.24.18: Maui emergency managers reported Piʻilani Highway remains closed at mile marker 37 near Kaupō.
11:04 a.m. 8.24.18: Due to rain, wind, and high surf, Piʻilani Highway past Kaupō(near mile marker 37) is now CLOSED.
UPCOUNTRY – PIIHOLO & OLINDA ROAD:
3 p.m. 8.24.18: Due to trees and utility wires down, Piʻiholo Rd in multiple locations and Olinda Rd above Seabury Hall is closed until further notice.
KAI HELE KU & HOKIOKIO FIRE RESPONSE:
4:30 p.m. 8.24.18: Lahaina Bypass at Hōkiokio Rd is now OPEN. Lahaina Bypass at Hōkiokio Rd is open to residence. Kai Hele Kū at the Lahaina Bypass remains closed until further notice.
3:30 p.m. 8.24.18: Lahaina Bypass at Kai Hele Kū and Hōkiokio, mauka remains closed. Locations above the bypass remains closed until further notice due to fire response.
HANA TOWN ROAD CLOSURE UPDATES
3 p.m. 8.24.18: Waikaloa Roadd, ʻUlaino Road, Honokalani Road and Piʻilani Highway at Marker 37, due to flooding the roads will remain closed until further notice. One correction, Waiʻānapanapa Rd was never closed.
KAI HELE KU FIRE RESPONSE:
1:19 p.m. 8.24.18: Kai Hele Kū Street in Lahaina remains closed due to fire response efforts.
9:30 a.m. 8.24.18: The Honoapiʻilani Highway is now OPEN in both directions. It was closed earlier this morning as fire crews battle a large fire in Kauaula Valley, and a separate fire in the hillside above Kāʻanapali.
Update: 6:03 a.m. 8.24.18: Please be advised that Kahekili Highway from Nākālele to Waiheʻe is now completely closed.
Update: 5:51 a.m. 8.24.18: Fire officials have reported that the fire has jumped Honoapiʻilani Highway near Dickenson Street and is approaching Aloha Gas Station. Please note that Honapiʻilani Highway is now closed in BOTH directions due to a large brushfire. Initially it was closed from Māʻalaea to Shaw Street in Lahaina for westbound traffic only, however it is now closed in both directions. Kahekili Highway is closed on the Waiheʻe side and is only passable one way, Kapalua to Waiheʻe but, due to the weather, it is not advisable.
5:46 a.m. 8.24.18: We have learned that the fire in Kauaula Valley has since grown to 300 acres, according to Maui Communications Director Rod Antone. One female was flown to Oahu for treatment of burns to her hands and legs. Antone says the Honoapiʻilani Hwy is closed for Lahaina-bound traffic; but motorists in Lahaina are being allowed to leave towards Central Maui at this time.
3:29 a.m. 8.24.18: Maui police have closed Lahaina-bound traffic on the Kahekili Highway due to an ongoing brush fire in Kauaula Valley. The Honoapiʻilani Highway (the main artery into and out of West Maui) is also closed at Carl’s Junior in Māʻalaea and Shaw Street in Lahaina.
2:35 a.m. 8.24.18: Due to an active brush fire, Honoapiʻilani Highway is closed at Carl’s Junior in Māʻalaea and Shaw Street in Lahaina. Motorists should avoid the area.
KULA HWY CLEARED
12:45 a.m. 8.24.18: Kula Highway at mile marker 9 cleared of downed trees.
HANGING TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT LAHAINA BYPASS/HOKIOKIO
11:50 p.m. 8.23.18: Crews removing hanging traffic signal at Lahaina Bypass/Hōkiokio Place. Electricity to signal at Honoapiʻilani Highway and Dickenson Street still down.
DOWNED TREE: HONOAPIILANI AT AHOLO
12 a.m. 8.24.18: trees down on Honoapiʻilani Highway and Aholo (pictured) and Kula Highway at mile marker 9. Not blocking the entire roadway, but please stay indoors.
10:55 p.m. 8.23.18: Lahaina bound lanes of Honoapiʻilani Hwy at Aholo blocked due to fallen tree.
DOWNED TREE/LINES FRONT ST
10:34 p.m. 8.23.18: There are reports of a downed tree and power lines on Front St. in the area of Lona Place in Lahaina. There are also reports of downed power lines on Kenui Street near Waineʻe Street. Please avoid these areas.
PIIHOLO RD, OLINDA RD, trees/utility wires down:
10 p.m. 8.23.10: Due to trees and utility wires down, Piʻiholo Road in multiple locations and Olinda Road above Seabury Hall is closed until further notice.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL OUT LAHAINA:
9:28 P.M. 8.23.18: The signal at Honoapiʻilani Hwy and Dickenson Street in Lahaina is without power. Motorists are asked to treat intersections without powered signals as a four-way stop.
KEKAULIKE AVE DOWNED TREE CLEARED:
9:14 p.m. 8.23.18: Kekaulike Avenue in Kula has been cleared.
8 p.m. 8.23.18: Kekaulike Avenue on Maui at mile marker 10.5 is reported closed due to a fallen tree.
TRAFFIC SIGNALS OUT Upcountry:
3:11 p.m. 8.23.18: Maui police report that traffic signals at Haleakalā Highway and Makani Road are out, as well as Kula Highway at Aapueo Parkway are out. Motorists are advised to approach intersections slowly and with caution.
WAIANAPANAPA ROAD CLOSED:
10:44 a.m. 8.23.18: Waiʻānapanapa Road in the East Maui town of Hāna is now closed as well due to inclement weather/flooding.
ULAINO ROAD FLOODED:
10:12 a.m. 8.23.18: Ulaino road in Hāna is closed near Kahanu Gardens due to heavy rain. The area is prone to flood during heavy rain events.
HANA HWY: TREE DOWN MILE 10 NEAR WAIKAMOI; DEBRIS AT MILE 13.5:
Update: as of 8:30 a.m. 8/23: The landslide on Hāna Highway at MP 16.8 is cleared but there are many low hanging branches along the route. Motorists are advised to use caution.
Update: as of 8 a.m. 8/23: Fallen trees on Hāna Highway at MP 10 and 11 have been cleared. A reported landslide at MP 16.8 is passable with one lane is still open.
Update 7:35 a.m. 8.23.18: Hāna Hwy is now passable; however, blockages remain at Mile 11 and Mile 13.5. A HDOT Keʻanae Crew is currently working to clear debris from the road.
Previous Report: We have reports of a fallen tree at Waikamoi, which is reportedly blocking Hāna Highway at Mile 10. (Reported at: 5:45 a.m., 8.23.18.)
WAIKOLOA ROAD AT KAWAIPAPA STREAM: The Maui Police Department reports that rains have been steady in the east Maui area of Hāna all evening with some downpours. At this time, Kawaipapa Stream is flowing and it has closed off Waikoloa Road. This is a common occurrence during rain storms in Hāna. (Posted 6:14 a.m. 8.23.18)
