All Maui County departments are reviewing operations this morning in order to determine which services can resume and when.

Maui Bus: the Maui Bus has resumed fixed-route service as of 7:30 a.m. today. MEO will also be providing limited special needs transportation, call 877-7651 for more information.  On Sunday the Maui Bus fixed route, commuter and para-transit services as well as MEO transportation services will be operating on a normal schedule.

Parks: the Department of Parks & Recreation will determine the reopening of parks and parks facilities on a case by case basis.

Landfills: Central Maui, Hana, Molokai and Lanai landfills have all reopened today. However Molokai Landfill will close early at 1 p.m. due to a manpower shortage.


Trash pick-up: regularly scheduled trash pick-up will resume starting Monday, August 27


Water: the Department of Water Supply continues to work to restore customers in Haiku after a 4 inch waterline was washed out, affecting customers on Puʻu Way.

The department also continues to ask West Maui residents to conserve water today while Maui Electric works to get power restored. The department needs power to turn on the pumps. In the meantime, water tankers are en route to Lahaina and will be located in the Kelawea Mauka subdivision and at the DWS baseyard on Lahainaluna Road. DWS personnel are in the process of taking more of the smaller tankers and locating them throughout West Maui.

Fire: the Department of Fire & Public Safety continues to assess the damage from yesterday’s brushfires in West Maui.

Maui County – Transportation Updates


  • All airlines are in full operations at Maui County airports with the exception of Ohana by Hawaii servicing Kapalua Airport on Molokai. Ticketed and confirmed passengers are reminded to check their flight status with their airline before heading to the airport. Please be patient and expect crowds at airports as airlines make up for earlier cancellations.
  • Flights: all flights are on schedule at Kahului, Molokaʻi and Lānaʻi airports. All airlines are at full operations at Kahului Airport. Remember to check flight status and confirm your flight reservation before going to the airport. Please pack patience and expect crowds as the airlines make up for earlier cancellations.


  • Harbors staff conducted assessment at first light. With concurrence of the Captain of the Port, Kahului and Kaunakakai Harbors was taken out of “Zulu” and placed into “hurricane preparedness” status, which means shippers can resume operations with caution. Shippers should schedule arrivals in these ports through and should be aware of possible debris in the water.
  • Kaumalapau Harbor remains at “Zulu” as of 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018.


  • All previously reported landslides and fallen trees on Hana Highway including the landslide at mile marker 23.5 reported at 4:40 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2018 have been cleared.
  • Saturday morning the Molokai crew was engaged in clearing debris in fords on Kamehameha V Highway between mile markers 10 and 27.
  • Maui crews responded to a traffic signal at Piilani Highway and Kilohana Drive and brought it up early Saturday morning. Motorists are asked to exercise caution at any non-operational traffic signals and treat as a four-way stop.
