Homestead Culinarian Featured at Waiohuli Ag Summit
Keōkea chef and caterer Robin Pikake Newhouse will help dish up the daylong Maui Homestead Summit this Saturday, Nov. 3, at He Piko No Waiohuli community center, 881 Lauʻie Drive (turn right/makai at Mile Marker 15 of Kula Highway). Her signature patele stew is a perennial sellout at Keōkea homestead events.
The free puwalu, or conference, features farming and ranching-related talks: 9 a.m. — Maui County Farm Bureau Ag Resources workshop; 10 a.m. — Hawaiian Homes Commission Act federal trust; noon — Luncheon keynote on all things kalo, or taro; 2 p.m. — “Laʻau Lapaʻau (healing) Teas at Makahiki”; 3 p.m. — WOW! tomato proprietors on cultivating economic self-sufficiency; 4 p.m. — Waiehu climate-change impacts, a Resilient Hawaiian Communities grant project, and 6 to 9 p.m. — ʻAha ʻāina (feast) featuring Hālau Kamaluokaleihulu and Ahumanu musical group.
