The boat was located approximately 2 miles offshore of Kaiolohia Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, when it caught on fire, the Maui Fire Department reports.

Firefighters from Lānaʻi and Kaunakakai initially responded to the incident and were later assisted by Coast Guard personnel from Oʻahu and Maʻalaea.

The boatʻs engine and battery were disabled from the fire. Crews doused the vessel with water and were able to put out the flames by 12:17 p.m.
