In honor of Arbor Day, the Maui Nui Botanical Gardens will be giving away 1,000 free Native Hawaiian trees.

The event will feature guest speakers who will discuss honey bees in Hawaiʻi and tree care. Conservation and cultural organizations will also provide planting information and free activities like lei making, Makahiki games, lauhala bracelet weaving, and kapa beating.

Keiki will also get the chance to learn about growing a garden and can pot up an additional plant to take home.

During the event, the annual Mālama I ka ʻĀina Award will be presented to an individual to recognize their efforts to keep invasive species out of Maui County.

Trees will be provided until supplies last. Local nurseries will also be selling native and non-native plants.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Nov. 2 at the Botanical Gardens.
