In celebration of the Year of the Rat, which has now officially begun, The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua will feature curated offerings inspired by the Lunar New Year on Thursday, Jan. 30.  The festive and family-friendly celebration will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the ritual of a traditional Lion dance where performers mimic the movement of a lion in costume to bring good luck and fortune for the New Year.

Hotel guests will have the opportunity to enjoy the interactive dance and participate by “feeding the Lion” for the possibility of being “bitten” which means they can look forward to their own personal good fortune according to Chinese folklore.

The Lion dance will be performed by Au’s Shaolin Arts based on Oʻahu. Its members have been on such shows as Magnum P.I., Lost, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hawaiian Moving Company, Hawaiian Dreams, Breathing Fire, The Animatrix, and worked with Kika Inc., Tihati Productions, Show People Hawaiʻi and recently Hawaiʻi 5-0 for an episode during the Chinese New Celebration on Oʻahu.

During the celebration, traditional and Chinese New Year inspired food and beverage offerings will be available for free from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. including a mandarin orange display, Chinese sweets station with almond cookies, Shanghai Fizz Punch mocktail, hot tea and dim sum.

For more information about these offerings or reservations at The Ritz-Carlton, call (800) 262-8440, the hotel directly at (808) 669-6200, or  click here.
