Beginning March 14, patrons at six Maui libraries will be able to borrow an ‘ukulele.

Under the new program, library patrons may borrow an ‘ukulele for a three-week period at no cost with a valid library card.

According to the Hawai’i library system, the goal of this program is to make ‘ukulele and ‘ukulele-playing opportunities accessible for all by allowing them to be checked out as easily as books.

The ‘ukulele instruments are provided and supported by the Music For Life Foundation and Jake Shimabukuro, co-director of the ‘ukulele sponsorship.

To launch the new service, the public is invited to a special musical performance featuring virtuoso ‘ukulele artists, Jake Shimabukuro and Maui’s own Andrew Molina, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Kahului Public Library on March 14.
