Hawaiian Electric is planning to use an unmanned aircraft, or drone, in the Ho‘ohana Street area in Kahului between Thursday, Jan. 21 to Monday, Jan. 25, 12 p.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. The drone will be used for an aerial survey of a singular site in the area.
The Hawaiian Electric Unmanned Aircraft Systems program is operated in compliance with Federal Aviation Administration rules. Company officials say they have developed safety, training, operating and privacy procedures to make sure the unmanned aircraft are flown with regard for the safety of the public and crews.
