A Wailuku man is being held in lieu of $1,000,000 bail following a stabbing reported over the weekend in which he allegedly stabbed his wife multiple times.

The incident was reported at 6:27 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.

Upon arrival, officers found the 41-year-old female victim with multiple stab wounds and lacerations throughout her body. Police say the victim’s husband Ricardo “Rico” Tavares, 40, was identified as the offender.

Tavares also sustained multiple self-inflicted stab wounds and lacerations, according to police reports. Police say the incident stemmed from an argument over personal issues.
